India is currently the sixth largest economy in terms of GDP. While the country witnessed a marginally diminishing GDP growth in the years prior to 2020, the national income contracted by ~7.5% in 2020, as compared to an expansion of ~5% in 2019. This is attributed directly to the global pandemic and its impact on economic growth; most major economies lost at least 3% of output.
